The park by my house
If you listened to the interview I linked to in my last post, you’ll know that Neil Gaiman got his inspiration for the book from a cemetery close to his house. I live near a large park and his story got me thinking about all the stories that could take place in the park. I also just finished reading Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick, part of which takes place in the American Museum of Natural History in Manhattan. There’s something really interesting and inspiring about setting a story in a special public place like a museum, park, or graveyard. I think it’s because I already have such interesting associations with graveyards and with the Natural History Museum. What about you? Can you think of a special place near where you live that might evoke a story?

Many of you mentioned in our survey that you wanted to see more frequent book recommendations on the Together Book Club. That way, if you speed your way through our monthly books, you have recommendations for good books to read until the next month begins. There are three ways to see recommendations for new books.
At the top of this page (look up) you will see a red box that says Read This. Click on it and a drop-down menu comes up.
- Read This gives you a comprehensive list of all the books that are the facilitator’s top five favorites!
- Book Club Picks gives you a list of all the books we’ve read so far on Together Book Club!
- And our newest feature, Book Recommendations! gives you bi-weekly reviews on new books! You can also get to this page by clicking on the Book Recommendations widget on the bottom left sidebar.
